I am fast approaching my various due dates! Although my official due date is the 28th--5 days from now, my ultrasound due date is the 25th. The due date by my own calculations is the 27th. It will be interesting to see which was the most accurate, if any.
I went into labor on Saturday. I had strong, regular contractions and thought for sure that was going to be it. Apparently, it just wasn't time, because the pains went away. I am praying that it will happen soon if it is the Lord's will.
Today, since my husband is at work, I am taking a break from the many activities that I have tried to induce my labor. I've tried long brisk walks, swinging on a swing, doing pelvic tilts and squats, drinking rasberry leaf tea, eating pizza, chili, pineapple, eggplant, etc., soaking in a warm bath, and bouncing on a "birthing ball". It has all been pretty exhausting for a woman who is nine months pregnant. As a last resort, I may take castor oil on the 28th or 29th. I'm not real big on the idea, but it would be better than a c-section.
Stay tuned for either another update, or better yet, the birth story!

Ummm... I'm serious about this, but, if you just make love with your hubby, sometimes that may rupture the sack and set you into labor. It was suggested by my brother and it worked for him, and so when I was pregnant I did the same thing and it did work for me...and even if it doesn't start labor...it's fun!
Taking Castor Oil can also cause your baby to have a bowel movement. Swallowing meconium is serious....I've experienced it with my first baby. I also have been induced. It was the most horrific experience of my life. I will never do it again unless there is a threat to my baby's life/health. I have had a c-section and would gladly experience that many times over to being induced when my body isn't ready.
It's not just the possibility of "breaking the sack" that might put you into labbor, but the fact that there are prostaglandins (sp?) in semen...prostaglandins are what they use in the hospital to "ripen" a cervix for labor. I haven't read any of your other blogs, I'm responding as a homeschooler from the HSC yahoo group, so I don't know if you have other issues. I see that you are attempting a vbac..good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine! (I attended a homebirth vbac that was one of the most beautiful I've seen.) But the one thought I had was "A watched pot never boils." How about watching a movie to take your mind off of it? Especially a love story with cute babies, to get you in the mood. Of course, now that I've suggested it, I can't think of one! Maybe "Three Men and a Baby"? "Mr. Mom"?

There is a spot right around your ankle bone, I believe, that if you have your husband massage it, it can get your labor going. You should be able to tell when he finds the right spot as it is sensitive and your body should respond. This can get your contractions going pretty strong. I have a friend that does reflexology and she showed my husband where to massage my ankle when we were expecting our son. You may wany to do an internet search or talk to a reflexologist to find out the exact spot as some spots might not be safe to mess with while you are pregnant. And if all else fails, go with comment #1. We did that too to get labor going, and why not have a little fun ; )

Acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments. Or just wait.
Thanks for all of the interesting comments! :)
Hi Janine,
I am so excited for you!
Well, here is my bit. I have 3 kids. I took castor oil with all three. With 1 & 2 it worked like a champ. (Except with #2 I pooped on the doctor's hands :o( a little embarrasing but I was assured that it was normal and I hadn't told them about the castor oil) Anyhow, I heard during pregnancy #3 by a ob/gyn that it can work, but only if the cervix is already ripe. So I made a point to wait until doc said I had dialated 3 or 4 centimeters in a regular exam. I tried on a weekend so family would be avaliable. First weekend was a flop. Had contractions but went nowhere. In the meantime I had another family member deliver her 3rd child on the bathroom floor with assistance from her teen daughter (was on Disovery channel :o)) Not what I was wanting. I was scared to death I was going to go into labor on the living room floor with my two little boys watching because my hubby couldn't get home in time and other family was and hour or more away. So second weekend comes and this time I was determined! Trided the castor oil again to no avail. Walked like mad. Had some "fun". Went to the hospital twice with contractions only to be sent home because they stopped. The second trip to the hospital baby was in distress at first so they kept me long enough to pump a bag of IV fluid in me because we were dehydrated. Once that was done they told me NOT TO COME BACK FOR 2 HOURS. Like I was an idiot that since I didn't know if it was true labor or not. As soon as I hit the parking lot the contractions hit again. My family asked me if i wanted to stay in the parking lot and walk around. I was MAD, I said no. We went home and in less than and hour from when we left my water broke. Baby was born in less than 30 minutes in the car on the way back to the hospital. So it was about 1 1/2 hours from leaving when I came back in the ambulance, baby in my arms. The nurse didn't want to see me and was totaly embarrased that she had talked to me like an idiot. My mom said the trick was getting my emotions going. I personally think it was my baby's way of "beating" the other family member. He was coming his way and with more drama! All this to say, I now believe it is just going to be when it is and we are at a loss of control unless we want a c-section. I don't think induction always even works. I went into labor with #1 but they let me have to much pain meds and had to induce me to get things going again. They had to use a vaccum with him at the end poor little guy. Anyway, I wish you the best. God will see you through :o).
As "anonymous" said, making love does work. Worked with the 2 of mine that I tried it on! Another reason it works is because it starts the contractions in the uterus and when you're ready anyway the contractions just keep going and continue to get stronger.
Janine, it's all very well for people to give advice on how to induce your baby. How does anyone know whether it was what they took/did and not when the baby would have come anyway?!
Just be patient. We all go through this just before the end. Exercise and eat sensibly and it WILL be born, one way or the other!
I don't know if you are a Christian, but you can give your worries into the Lord's hands. I don't mean to sound trite or belittle what you are going through, but He is faithful and your whole LIFE, which includes your pregnancy and birth are in His hands..... just trust Him!
I have heard something about nipple stimulation, but there is a certian way you must do it. Maybe you can google it.
Primrose oil capsules. Put a couple up against the cervix while you take a nap or at night before bed, it softens the cervix and helps dilate and get labor started. I did this in addition to the castor oil...worked like a CHARM.
